At my local makeup store, we just got in the ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starr primers. I went in to try them out and give you my first impressions.

ONE/SIZE Secure the Blur
Makeup Magnet Primer
It has super blurring power! I tested the product on my hand and it completely covered the lines on the back of my hands. It dried down to a super soft finish. It left my skin SUPER soft and hydrated. I think anyone who loves that soft skin texture will like this product.

ONE/SIZE Secure the Sweat
Waterproof Mattifying Primer
Now. If you are looking for a primer that is going to grab onto your foundation and hold it there all day, this is for you. It has a liquidly-gel texture that leaves a slight tacky base designed to hold on to any following products. When left alone, it does dry down nicely, but it doesn’t have the same hydrating effect on the skin. I think it will be really good if you have oily skin.
Purchase or Pass?
I will be passing on these primers. Why? My reason to say no to these two has absolutely nothing to do with the products themselves. It has everything to do with the packaging. I think people really underestimate the power of “User Experience” when it comes to product packaging. These primers are a perfect example.
ONE/SIZE Secure the Blur Magnet Makeup
The packaging is a solid tube that definitely won’t change shape with overtime use. It was slightly difficult to squeeze out the product, which is nice for controlling how much product comes out but hard for getting out enough product to cover your entire face. I am also concerned about how you would get the last bit of product out because it is so hard to squeeze the tube because it is so wide. I could be convinced to purchase after reading more reviews from people who get to the end of the product.
ONE/SIZE Secure the Sweat Waterproof Mattifying Primer

I could not be convinced to purchase this primer, no matter how good it is. This metal tube packaging is the kind of packaging that you get topical medications from pharmacy in. The kind of tube that cracks with use and product squeezes through the cracks. Yeah. That kind of tube. The nozzle can scratch you if you if you press it against your hand too hard. The flimsy metal just feels like it’s ready to snap with every use. Just the mental image makes me cringe.
Alternatives/Recommendations
I have three primers that I would recommend as alternatives. Now, these ARE NOT dupes. These may not give the exact same result. These are products that I have tried that delivered similar results but have a better “user experience” in the packaging category.
Pore Diffusing:

Rare Beauty Pore Diffusing Primer would be my recommendation. This primer leaves your skin with such an instantly hydrated-smooth finish. It has a fantastic blurring power, very similar if not the same as the Secure the Blur primer.
The packaging is a major selling point for me. This primer comes in an airless pump bottle. This pump makes sure no product is wasted. It is super easy to get out enough product to cover your entire face. The pump design will push the product up over time to there are no issues with wasting the product.
Mattifying:
Milk Pore Eclipse
Mattifying + Blurring Makeup Primer with Niacinamide

The Milk Pore Eclipse primer has a more gel like texture, not as liquidy as the Secure the Sweat primer. Because of the texture difference, the Pore Eclipse primer does not have the same tacky, gripping power as the Secure the Sweat primer. However, it does a pretty good job at giving you a matte, smooth, soft base. The packaging of the Pore Eclipse is a MAJOR step up from the metal tube of the Secure the Sweat, but it is a standard tube packaging. I always prefer a pump, but a tube isn’t a deal breaker for me. Unlike the hard plastic of the Secure the Blur tube, the Pore Eclipse tube is a more malleable plastic to make it easier to get those last bits of product out.
Bonus Recommendation:
My local store currently does not have stock of the third ONE/SIZE primer, Secure the Glow Tacky Hydrating Primer with BOBA Complex. I have friends who have tried this primer, but I can’t give you my personal first impressions on the product.

I have seen the product in person (and I mean it’s not hard to see the packaging in the picture), it comes in a traditional pump bottle. Packaging wouldn’t be an issue for me, but I do wish it was an airless pump because it would be annoying to get the last bit of product out.
Hydrating Primer:
Milk Hydro Grip
Hydrating Makeup Primer with Hyaluronic Acid + Niacinamide

We don’t have the Secure the Glow primer, but we do have the Milk Hydro Grip Hydrating Makeup Primer with Hyaluronic Acid + Niacinamide. This primer gives you such a soft, hydrated base to work with. It isn’t tacky, but it still holds on to makeup flawlessly. Once again, it is in an airless pump. However, the top of the bottle isn’t flat. So I’m not sure how much product will be in accessible. I have purchased this primer so I can do an update on that in the future.
Thank you so much for reading! Ask me some follow-up questions! I specifically want to know:
– What do you look for in a primer? Hydration? Blurring power? Mattifying power? I’m a blur and hydrating girl.
– Have you tried the ONE/SIZE primers? If so, what do you think about them? Is the packaging a bother to you? Would you repurchase?
– What other primers would you recommend that have better packaging?
